First Look of Railmotor Models New Packaging
Share
Over the past 12 months, we’ve identified several limitations with the original packaging used for Railmotor Models Ready-to-Run wagons.
Challenges with the Original Packaging
- Wagons were secured using wire to a cardboard base. When removing the wire, it was common to unintentionally twist the bogies, causing delicate side details to come loose. While easily repaired with a small amount of glue, this was not ideal.
- Packaging each wagon took approximately 5–10 minutes, requiring extra care to avoid damage.
- The packaging design was outdated and not suitable for reuse or long-term storage.
Developing the New Packaging
To address these issues, we consulted with several manufacturers, who consistently recommended blister packaging as the best solution.
Following this, I was introduced to a factory used by several Australian manufacturers. By coincidence, I met with Allic in Sydney at Rosehill in 2025, where we discussed the best approach. I then sent samples of each wagon type, allowing their design team to develop a universal blister that accommodates all J Series hoppers.
The new blister packaging keeps wagons secure during transit, makes them easier to remove and repack, and provides a practical storage solution.
New Product Options
We will continue offering single-pack wagons, as originally intended. However, over the past year, the most common purchase has been three wagons, so we are introducing a new 3-pack option alongside the updated packaging.
For the first time, Railmotor Models Ready-to-Run products will also be available through hobby retailers. The new packaging allows us to supply 3-packs to stores across Australia.
Retailers interested in stocking Railmotor Models can contact us at Sales@railmotormodels.au .
New Branding
The updated packaging also introduces our new logo and a refreshed design, marking the beginning of a new era for Railmotor Models.
Pricing Update
To support business growth and reflect increased costs, a pricing adjustment is necessary.
New pricing will be as follows:
- $50 per single wagon
- $150 for a 3-pack (RRP for hobby stores)
Our free shipping threshold will remain unchanged for orders over $175.
The new pricing applies only to models in the new blue packaging. Existing stock in the original yellow packaging will remain at current prices until sold out. We expect the new packaging to arrive in the second half of 2026.
